Luca 23,46 racconta uno dei momenti più profondi e struggenti della Passione di Cristo: "Padre, nelle tue mani consegno il mio spirito". Con questo grido, Gesù, dopo sei ore di agonia sulla croce, segnò il culmine della sua missione terrena. Appeso al legno, con il peso del suo corpo che gravava su ferite aperte alle mani, ai piedi e al fianco, Gesù pronunciò le sue ultime parole, un grido pieno di dolore, ma anche di fiducia e di speranza.

Qualsiasi condizione di "croce" nella nostra vita, per quanto dura e difficile possa sembrare, è sempre un luogo proficuo per l'opera dello Spirito Santo. La croce, che spesso appare come un peso insopportabile, è in realtà un'opportunità per un incontro profondo con Dio, un momento in cui il soffio della grazia può trasformare il dolore in speranza.

Dobbiamo allenarci a vedere la croce sotto questa luce, per non lasciarci schiacciare dal suo peso. Per noi che crediamo di aver ricevuto il sospiro di Gesù sulla croce, una vita nuova ha preso dimora nel nostro cuore. Questo Spirito di vita, questa fonte inesauribile di energia e speranza, ci dà la forza di lodare Dio chiamandolo "Abba!", come ci insegna la lettera ai Galati: "Ma quando venne la pienezza del tempo, Dio mandò il suo Figlio, nato da donna, nato sotto la Legge, per riscattare quelli che erano sotto la Legge, perché ricevessimo l'adozione a figli. E che voi siete figli lo prova il fatto che Dio mandò nei nostri cuori lo Spirito del suo Figlio, il quale grida: 'Abba! Padre!' Luke 23:46 recounts one of the most profound and heart-wrenching moments of the Passion of Christ: "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." With this cry, Jesus, after six hours of agony on the cross, marked the culmination of His earthly mission. Hanging on the wood, with the weight of His body pressing on the open wounds in His hands, feet, and side, Jesus uttered His final words, a cry full of pain but also of trust and hope.

This is the cry of a man who experienced humiliation to the very end of His life, insulted, mocked, and pierced. Yet, despite the darkness and apparent solitude, Jesus remained faithful to the deep and authentic knowledge of the Father, to the perfect communion with Him. The cross, despite its cruelty, was not a place of abandonment but a place of complete awareness of the Spirit dwelling within Jesus.

In the act of committing His spirit to the Father, Jesus not only accepted death but offered His life as a river of grace. His final breath carried the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the Ruach Hakodesh, the Spirit of Elohim. This gift is an eternal seal: in the moment of His death, Jesus imparted the breath of God to the entire earth, allowing humanity to spiritually receive this breath of life and love.

From that moment onward, every man and woman can receive the Holy Spirit, the life-giving breath that regenerates and renews. It is an invitation to live in communion with God, to embrace grace, and to allow oneself to be transformed by the sacrifice of Christ, who gave Himself completely for us.

Any condition of "cross" in our life, no matter how hard or difficult it may seem, is always a fertile ground for the work of the Holy Spirit. The cross, which often seems like an unbearable burden, is, in reality, an opportunity for a profound encounter with God, a moment when the breath of grace can transform pain into hope.

We must train ourselves to see the cross in this light, so as not to be crushed by its weight. For us who believe that we have received the breath of Jesus on the cross, a new life has taken residence in our hearts. This Spirit of life, this inexhaustible source of energy and hope, gives us the strength to praise God, calling Him "Abba!" as the Letter to the Galatians teaches us: "But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, 'Abba! Father!' So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."

This Spirit of adoption reminds us that we are not alone, that the cross is not the sign of defeat, but the place where our hope, our strength, and our inheritance as children of God arise.

Prayer of Hope and Surrender in the Cross

Lord Jesus, who on the cross entrusted Your Spirit to the Father, grant us Your breath of life and hope. Teach us to see every cross in our life not as a crushing weight but as a place of grace, where the Holy Spirit works to transform our suffering into redemption.

Holy Spirit, come and fill our hearts. Let every difficulty, every pain, every trial be an opportunity to encounter Your presence and to feel Your life-giving breath. Make us aware that a new life has entered our hearts thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

Abba, Father! We praise and bless You because You have adopted us as Your children. We are heirs of Your grace, no longer slaves but free in hope and love. Guide us with Your Spirit and make us instruments of Your light and peace.
