Questo giorno segna il momento in cui Giuda Iscariota, uno dei suoi discepoli più vicini, decide di consegnarlo ai sommi sacerdoti per trenta denari. Il peso di questo tradimento non è solo un atto di inganno, ma rappresenta il rifiuto dell'amore e della verità che Gesù ha predicato durante tutta la sua vita.

La tristezza di Gesù non è solo legata al tradimento di Giuda, ma anche alla consapevolezza che la sua missione lo porterà a soffrire per l'umanità. Egli sa che i suoi discepoli, coloro che ha amato e guidato, lo abbandoneranno nel momento più difficile. Sa che Pietro, il suo più fervente seguace, lo rinnegherà tre volte prima che il gallo canti. Sa che la folla che lo ha acclamato pochi giorni prima con rami di palma ora griderà per la sua crocifissione. Questo dolore interiore è forse più grande di quello fisico che subirà sulla croce.

Il Mercoledì Santo è anche un giorno di attesa e di silenzio interiore. Holy Wednesday is a day of deep reflection on the profound sadness of Jesus, a sorrow that goes beyond physical suffering and is rooted in loneliness and betrayal. This day marks the moment when Judas Iscariot, one of His closest disciples, decides to hand Him over to the chief priests for thirty silver coins. The weight of this betrayal is not just an act of deception; it represents the rejection of the love and truth that Jesus preached throughout His life.

Jesus’ sadness is not only linked to Judas' betrayal but also to the awareness that His mission will lead Him to suffer for humanity. He knows that His disciples, those He loved and guided, will abandon Him in His most difficult moment. He knows that Peter, His most fervent follower, will deny Him three times before the rooster crows. He knows that the crowd that had just celebrated Him with palm branches days earlier will now cry out for His crucifixion. This inner pain may be even greater than the physical suffering He will endure on the cross.

Holy Wednesday is also a day of anticipation and inner silence. Jesus prepares for His Passion, aware that the path to Calvary will be marked by humiliation, torture, and death. Yet, His sorrow is not despair; it is a pain that carries with it the hope of redemption. He accepts His fate with love and mercy, showing that suffering can be transformed into salvation.
