«E come faccio a lasciarglielo?» chiese.

Luigi rimase solo sotto l’ulivo.

The Story of Luigi: The Broken Thread and the Door That Opens

Luigi lived in a small village at the foot of a great mountain. He was a hardworking man, always ready to give his best, but in recent years everything had become more difficult. His work wasn’t moving forward, expenses kept rising, and a quiet worry tightened his heart more and more each day. One evening, tired and weighed down, he stepped outside and sat beneath the old olive tree in the center of the village. Looking up at the sky, he whispered, “Lord, I don’t know what to do anymore. It feels like something is holding me back, like a thread I can’t break.”

As he spoke, an elderly wise man from the village approached and sat beside him. Everyone knew him as a man of peace. “Luigi,” he said gently, “your heart is weary because you’re pulling on a thread you cannot break alone. Let God pull it with you.”

Luigi looked at him with a mix of surprise and sadness. “And how do I let Him do that?” he asked.

The old man smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Entrust to Him not only your problems, but also your fears. Not only what isn’t working, but also your fear of failing. When you give God what frightens you, He breaks what binds you.”

Then he pointed toward the mountain before them. “Do you see that stone door? It has been closed for years. But when the right wind comes, it opens on its own. God will do the same for you: He will open what no one else can open.”

Luigi remained alone under the olive tree. He closed his eyes and, with a quiet voice but with all his heart, said, “Lord, take my thread. Break what holds me back. Open the door.”

And as he prayed, he felt a new peace settle within him, like a gentle wind descending from the mountain. He had not yet seen the change, but he knew something had begun to move. Because when Luigi entrusted his broken thread to God, God began to open the door.

The Peace That Comes From His Presence

“A great storm of wind arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that it was already filling. He was in the stern, asleep on a cushion.” Mark 4:37–38
The Peace That Comes From His Presence
A great storm rises, the waves crash into the boat, and fear grips the disciples. In the midst of this chaos, Jesus sleeps. Not because He is unaware, and not because He is indifferent, but because He carries within Himself a peace that no storm can disturb.
The disciples are frightened precisely because they see Him calm. Their logic is simple: if He is not alarmed, then perhaps He does not care. But the truth is the opposite. His calm is the sign that nothing can overpower them. His rest is not abandonment; it is assurance.
We often respond like the disciples. When the storms of life rise—illness, uncertainty, loss, inner turmoil—we think God is silent or distant. We imagine that our agitation might somehow help, as if worrying could steady the waves. But our fear does not calm the storm. His presence does.
𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘂𝘀. His serenity is not passivity; it is the strength of the One who sees beyond the moment, who knows the end of the story, who understands that no wave is greater than His love.
To remain in peace with the Lord means learning to breathe with His rhythm, to trust His timing, to rest in His nearness even when He seems silent. It is a peace that does not deny the storm, but walks through it with confidence.
When our heart trembles, we can return to this scene: the boat shaking, the disciples afraid, and Jesus asleep. Not because He does not see, but because He sees farther than we do. And when the moment comes, He rises and speaks a single word: “Quiet. Be still.”
And the storm obeys.
So it is with the storms within us.
Not always immediately, not always as we imagine, but always with the same promise:
if Christ is with us, the storm will not have the final word. His presence is our peace, His nearness our strength, His voice our calm.

In mezzo a quel caos, Gesù dorme.
