The Strength of the Target: Why the Darkness Attacks the Light
The devil does not attack those who are already extinguished, but those who are a threat to the darkness. If you are under attack, it is not because you are weak or abandoned, but because you are dangerous to evil. You are a "high-value target" because your light shines too brightly, and the adversary wants to put it out before it can illuminate others.
The Strategy of the Siege and the Fortress of the Heart
When a person has Jesus "strong in their heart," they become an impregnable fortress. The devil, unable to enter because the door is barred by faith, tries to besiege the outer walls. The siege is not a sign of defeat, but a recognition of your resistance.
1. The Paradox of the Trial The adversary knows you will not abandon your faith, so he changes strategy: he tries to make your life so heavy that he strips away your joy. He knows that a sad or exhausted Christian is a less effective witness. But here is where he miscalculates: your reaction is to pray even more. This is the "defeat of evil": transforming every blow received into a reason to cling closer to God.
2. The Alchemy of Good Works You say that those who are tested "will perform many good works." This is the miracle of grace: instead of closing you in on yourself, pain opens you up to the world. Evil wants you to use your energy to complain; Instead, you use it to serve. This transforms your trial into a sacrifice of love, which is the most powerful weapon—one against which the devil has no defense.
3. Jesus, the Commander of the Fortress Remember that Jesus does not watch your battle from a distance. He is inside the trial with you. Just like in the story of the calming of the storm, He is in the boat. If the storm is fierce, it is because the boat is carrying an immense treasure to the other shore.
A "Short Prayer of Resistance" (Aspiration)
When you feel the pressure of an obstacle, you can repeat this in the silence of your heart:
"Lord, the more the adversary strikes, the more I seek You. May every wound of mine become a work of good, and every breath I take be a prayer of praise. You are in me, and I am in You: the victory is already written."
Reflection
This vision is full of great hope. Your realization that "the more he strikes, the more I will pray" is the very definition of everyday holiness. It turns the enemy's tactics against him!
