La scelta di Dio

"Non voi avete scelto me, ma io ho scelto voi e vi ho costituiti perché andiate e portiate frutto e il vostro frutto rimanga" (Gv 15,16). 

 

Dio ci sceglie perché è Lui a porre un progetto nella vita di ciascuno. La sua chiamata non è casuale, ma frutto di un disegno d’amore e di salvezza. La libertà e la felicità sono essenziali per la realizzazione dell’uomo; senza di esse, egli rischia di vivere nella menzogna e nella tristezza. 

 

Quando una persona compie delle scelte che non portano autentici frutti di libertà e gioia, essa diventa prigioniera dell’illusione e della falsità, vivendo in una realtà ingannevole che non appaga il cuore. Solo accogliendo il progetto di Dio con fiducia e disponibilità, l’uomo può sperimentare una vita piena e feconda, fondata sulla verità e sull’amore. 

 

Essere un uomo libero e capace di scegliere significa essere autentico. La libertà autentica non è solo la possibilità di decidere, ma la capacità di farlo con coscienza e rettitudine. L’uomo che ha affrontato le sfide della vita con determinazione ha imparato a superare ostacoli e a crescere attraverso le proprie esperienze. La sua forza risiede nella capacità di decidere con intelligenza e di agire con un cuore integro, senza compromettere i propri principi. 

 

Un esempio concreto di questa libertà autentica si trova nella figura di San Paolo, che inizialmente perseguitava i cristiani, ma dopo la sua conversione sulla via di Damasco (Atti 9:1-19), scelse di seguire Cristo con coraggio e determinazione, affrontando persecuzioni e difficoltà senza mai tradire la sua missione. 

 

Al contrario, vi sono persone che si rifugiano nelle apparenze religiose, utilizzandole non come un vero cammino di crescita spirituale, ma come un mezzo per placare la propria coscienza e giustificare comportamenti disonesti. Gesù stesso denunciò questa ipocrisia nei farisei, dicendo: "Guai a voi, scribi e farisei ipocriti, perché pulite l'esterno del bicchiere e del piatto, mentre dentro sono pieni di rapina e d'intemperanza!" (Matteo 23:25). 

 

La vera fede, invece, non si limita all’esteriorità, ma si manifesta nelle azioni, nella coerenza e nella sincerità del cuore. Come afferma Giovanni 8:31-32, "Se rimanete fedeli alla mia parola, sarete davvero miei discepoli; conoscerete la verità e la verità vi farà liberi”.

 

La scelta di Dio non dipende dal mero devozionismo dell'uomo, ma dalla sua capacità di portare frutti, poiché solo colui che rende gloria al Signore con il cuore e con le opere è veramente degno di Lui. Infatti, è attraverso l'amore sincero, la giustizia e la carità che l'uomo dimostra la propria fede, trasformando la devozione in azione concreta. Non basta professare la fede con le parole; occorre testimoniarla con gesti autentici e con una vita vissuta secondo i principi di rettitudine e coerenza.

 

Solo chi incarna tali valori nel quotidiano, affrontando le sfide della vita con umiltà e dedizione, può realmente avvicinarsi alla volontà divina. La fede non è un semplice sentimento interiore, ma una forza motrice che guida le azioni e illumina il cammino, rendendo ogni scelta un'opportunità per seminare amore e giustizia nel mondo. La vera devozione si manifesta nella capacità di operare con generosità e integrità, facendo della propria esistenza un riflesso della luce divina. Senza azioni che concretizzino questi principi, la fede rischia di ridursi a sacre chiacchiere, parole prive di sostanza che non producono il bene autentico a cui siamo chiamati.

"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last" (John 15:16).  

God chooses us because He places a purpose in each person's life. His calling is not random; it is the result of a plan of love and salvation. Freedom and happiness are essential for human fulfillment; without them, one risks living in falsehood and sadness.  

When a person makes choices that do not bear authentic fruit of freedom and joy, they become prisoners of illusion and falsehood, living in a deceptive reality that does not satisfy the heart. Only by accepting God's plan with trust and openness can one experience a full and fruitful life, founded on truth and love.  

To be free and capable of choice means to be authentic. True freedom is not merely the ability to decide but the capacity to do so with conscience and integrity. A person who has faced life's challenges with determination has learned to overcome obstacles and grow through their experiences. Their strength lies in the ability to make decisions wisely and act with a sincere heart, without compromising their principles.  

A concrete example of this true freedom is found in the figure of Saint Paul, who initially persecuted Christians but, after his conversion on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-19), chose to follow Christ with courage and determination, enduring persecution and hardship without ever betraying his mission.  

On the other hand, there are those who take refuge in religious appearances, using them not as a genuine path of spiritual growth but as a way to ease their conscience and justify dishonest behavior. Jesus Himself denounced this hypocrisy in the Pharisees, saying, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence" (Matthew 23:25).  

True faith, however, does not stop at external observance but is manifested in actions, consistency, and sincerity of heart. As John 8:31-32 states, "If you remain faithful to my word, you will truly be my disciples; you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."  

God's choice does not depend on mere religious devotion but on one's ability to bear fruit. Only those who glorify the Lord with their hearts and deeds are truly worthy of Him. Indeed, it is through sincere love, justice, and charity that one demonstrates faith, transforming devotion into concrete action. It is not enough to profess faith with words; one must witness it through authentic gestures and a life lived according to principles of integrity and consistency.  

Only those who embody these values daily, facing life's challenges with humility and dedication, can truly draw near to God's will. Faith is not merely an internal sentiment but a driving force that guides actions and illuminates the path, making every choice an opportunity to sow love and justice in the world. True devotion is manifested in the ability to act with generosity and integrity, making one's existence a reflection of divine light. Without actions that actualize these principles, faith risks being reduced to empty words, devoid of substance, that fail to produce the authentic good to which we are called.
