Gv 21,11- Allora Simon Pietro salì nella barca e trasse a terra la rete piena di centocinquantatré grossi pesci. E benché fossero tanti, la rete non si squarciò. 12Gesù disse loro: "Venite a mangiare". E nessuno dei discepoli osava domandargli: "Chi sei?", perché sapevano bene che era il Signore. 13Gesù si avvicinò, prese il pane e lo diede loro, e così pure il pesce. 14Era la terza volta che Gesù si manifestava ai discepoli, dopo essere risorto dai morti.

153 grossi pesci non hanno squarciato la rete; questo numero rappresenta l’enorme quantità della chiesa del Risorto. È lui che crea la sua comunità e la sostiene, non la tecnica e la strategia degli uomini della chiesa che possono riempire la “rete del Signore”. 

Il risorto che opera prodigi anche nella notte più precaria e triste, è il risorto che dona il suo Santo Spirito alla Chiesa nel suo dono nell’invito: “Venite a mangiare”; “...si avvicinò, prese il pane e lo diede loro, e così pure il pesce”.

Era la terza volta che Gesù si era manifestato ai suoi discepoli dopo essere risorto dai morti: questo era per indicare che Cristo è Risorto e veramente Risorto! Un rafforzativo per chi crede e segue la fede in Gesù.

Meditation on John 21:11-14

When Peter drags the net ashore, it is incredibly full: one hundred and fifty-three large fish, yet it does not tear. This detail is no coincidence—it symbolizes the Church, vast and diverse, yet strong and held together not by human efforts, but by the work of the Risen One. It is not human strategy that fills the net, but Christ Himself who calls, gathers, and keeps His community united.

In Jesus’ invitation to come and eat, we hear the tenderness of a God who cares for His people. 

The fish, an ancient Christian symbol, recalls Christ's name: 

Ichthys (Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς, Θεοῦ Υἱὸς, Σωτήρ – "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior"). 

With the bread and the fish, Jesus nourishes His friends, making the meal a sign of the communion born from encountering Him.

The third manifestation of the Risen Lord strengthens the disciples' faith: Christ is truly risen! This is not just an event but a certainty that transforms the heart. They do not need to ask who He is—they know well that it is the Lord. He fills their lives with His presence and accompanies them in their mission.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You fill our lives and our community with Your grace, You sustain Your Church and invite us to Your table.

May we recognize You without hesitation, may our faith be as firm as the net that does not break. Nourish us with Your Bread, help us to taste Your presence, and make us instruments of Your communion.
