Why me?

Molte persone si pongono una domanda importante davanti a Dio, ma non quando tutto va bene, quando la vita scorre comoda e tranquilla. È nel momento della prova che nasce un ragionamento distorto: “Perché Dio mi ha fatto soffrire così? Non ho commesso nessun grande peccato. Non meritavo questo.”

È una reazione umana, ma rivela una mente che si chiude, che misura Dio con i criteri dell’uomo, come se il Signore fosse un contabile che distribuisce premi e castighi in base ai nostri calcoli. È una visione ottusa, non perché la persona sia cattiva, ma perché il dolore restringe l’orizzonte e ci fa dimenticare chi è davvero Dio.

La verità è che la sofferenza non è una punizione matematica. Non è il segno che Dio ci ha abbandonati. È piuttosto un luogo misterioso in cui il Signore ci attende per trasformare il nostro cuore. Non ci chiede di capire tutto, ma di fidarci.

Per questo, invece di dire: “Perché mi hai fatto questo?”, il credente può fare un passo diverso, più umile e più libero:  

“Grazie, Gesù. In questo momento non comprendo, ma mi affido a Te. Tu sei la mia unica salvezza.”

È la resa che salva. È il momento in cui smettiamo di giudicare Dio e lasciamo che sia Lui a guidare noi. È la scelta di chi riconosce che la vera forza non sta nel controllare la vita, ma nel consegnarla a Colui che l’ha vinta.

E allora anche la sofferenza, pur rimanendo mistero, diventa un luogo di incontro. Non più un muro, ma una porta. Non più un’accusa, ma un’occasione per dire:  

“Signore, eccomi. Non capisco, ma mi fido. Trasforma Tu ciò che io non posso.”

Many people ask an important question before God, but not when everything is going well, when life flows in comfort and ease. It is in the moment of trial that a distorted reasoning arises: “Why has God made me suffer like this? I haven’t committed any great sin. I didn’t deserve this.”

It is a human reaction, but it reveals a mind that closes in on itself, that measures God with human criteria, as if the Lord were an accountant who distributes rewards and punishments according to our calculations. It is a narrow vision, not because the person is bad, but because pain narrows our horizon and makes us forget who God truly is.

The truth is that suffering is not a mathematical punishment. It is not a sign that God has abandoned us. Rather, it is a mysterious place where the Lord waits for us in order to transform our hearts. He does not ask us to understand everything, but to trust.

For this reason, instead of saying, “Why have You done this to me?”, the believer can take a different step, one that is more humble and more free:  

“Thank you, Jesus. In this moment I do not understand, but I entrust myself to You. You are my only salvation.”

This is the surrender that saves. It is the moment when we stop judging God and allow Him to guide us. It is the choice of those who recognize that true strength does not lie in controlling life, but in handing it over to the One who has conquered it.

And so even suffering, though it remains a mystery, becomes a place of encounter. No longer a wall, but a door. No longer an accusation, but an opportunity to say:  

“Lord, here I am. I do not understand, but I trust. Transform what I cannot.”
