È doloroso quando le persone non si salutano, ma ancora più triste quando ciò accade tra coloro che si professano cristiani. La vera fede dovrebbe manifestarsi non solo nelle pratiche religiose, ma soprattutto nei gesti di amore e accoglienza quotidiani.

Ogni volta che mi trovo tra persone che non sono praticanti o credenti, ma che mostrano una gentilezza sincera, mi sorprendo nel vedere quanto la cortesia e il rispetto possano illuminare un incontro. È un gesto semplice, ma potente, che trasmette calore umano e vicinanza.

Poco fa, al supermercato, ho incontrato una signora che ogni domenica è presente puntualmente in chiesa. L’ho salutata con un sorriso sincero, aspettandomi di ricevere almeno un cenno di gioia, una luce di riconoscimento. Ma invece, il suo sguardo era freddo, giudicante, distante, privo di quella bellezza che dovrebbe brillare in chi vive la fede.

Il cristianesimo non è fatto solo di parole, ma di gesti, di incontri, di uno sguardo che accoglie, di una mano che si tende. L’essenza del messaggio di Cristo è l’amore che si fa visibile, tangibile, concreto. È nell’umiltà di un saluto, nella capacità di vedere l’altro come un fratello, nella gioia di riconoscersi parte di una comunità viva.

Eppure, non bisogna rispondere con amarezza. Forse quella persona porta nel cuore un peso, un’inquietudine, una chiusura che ancora non riesce a sciogliere. Il vero cristiano non si lascia scoraggiare, ma continua a testimoniare la luce, perché anche il più piccolo gesto può essere un seme che germoglierà nel tempo.

Non smettiamo di sorridere, di tendere la mano, di salutare con gioia, perché nell’amore si trova la vera forza del Vangelo.

Preghiera

Vieni, Santo Spirito, e riempi i nostri cuori della tua presenza viva e potente. Soffia su di noi il tuo respiro di vita, illumina la nostra mente, ravviva la nostra fede. Donaci l’audacia di testimoniare il Vangelo, la forza di rimanere saldi nelle prove e la dolcezza di accogliere ogni fratello con amore.

Spirito di verità, guidaci nel discernimento, affinché possiamo camminare secondo la volontà del Padre. Rendici capaci di ascoltare, di dialogare nella pace e di vivere nella fiducia, guarendo le nostre paure, le nostre delusioni e le ferite che portiamo dentro.

Vieni, Santo Spirito, e guida la tua Chiesa. Sostieni i nostri sacerdoti, il nostro vescovo e tutti i pastori, affinché siano strumenti della tua grazia, testimoni fedeli del tuo amore e guide sicure per il tuo popolo.

Santo Spirito, donaci la sensibilità e la tenacia di essere coerenti fino in fondo. Fa’ che ogni passo che facciamo sia sempre in unione con Te, perché senza di Te nulla possiamo. Rinnova in noi il fuoco del tuo amore, accendi la nostra anima con la tua luce e rendici strumenti di pace nel mondo.

Benedetto sei Tu, per sempre, Soffio di Dio, Luce nelle tenebre, Forza nella debolezza, Amore che trasforma ogni cosa.

It is painful when people do not greet each other, but even sadder when this happens among those who profess to be Christians. True faith should manifest not only in religious practices but above all in everyday acts of love and kindness.

Whenever I find myself among people who are not practicing or believers but who show sincere kindness, I am surprised to see how courtesy and respect can brighten an encounter. It is a simple yet powerful gesture that conveys human warmth and closeness.

Earlier, at the supermarket, I met a woman who attends church every Sunday. I greeted her with a sincere smile, expecting at least a glance of joy, a spark of recognition. But instead, her gaze was cold, judgmental, distant—lacking that beauty that should shine in those who live by faith.

Christianity is not just words but actions, encounters, a look that welcomes, a hand that reaches out. The essence of Christ’s message is love that becomes visible, tangible, concrete. It is in the humility of a greeting, in the ability to see the other as a brother, in the joy of recognizing ourselves as part of a living community.

Yet, we must not respond with bitterness. Perhaps that person carries a burden in their heart, an unease, a barrier they have not yet been able to overcome. A true Christian does not lose heart but continues to witness the light, knowing that even the smallest gesture can be a seed that will germinate over time.

Let us not stop smiling, reaching out, greeting with joy, for in love lies the true strength of the Gospel.

Prayer:

Come, Holy Spirit, and fill our hearts with Your living and powerful presence. Breathe upon us Your breath of life, illuminate our minds, and revive our faith. Grant us the courage to witness the Gospel, the strength to remain steadfast in trials, and the gentleness to welcome every brother with love.

Spirit of Truth, guide us in discernment so that we may walk according to the Father's will. Make us capable of listening, of dialoguing in peace, and of living in trust, healing our fears, disappointments, and the wounds we carry within us.

Come, Holy Spirit, and guide Your Church. Sustain our priests, our bishop, and all pastors so that they may be instruments of Your grace, faithful witnesses of Your love, and secure guides for Your people.

Holy Spirit, grant us sensitivity and perseverance to remain consistent to the very end. May every step we take always be in union with You, for without You, we can do nothing. Renew in us the fire of Your love, ignite our souls with Your light, and make us instruments of peace in the world.

Blessed are You forever, Breath of God, Light in the darkness, Strength in weakness, Love that transforms all things.
