The urgency of His call

The Good Shepherd Sunday

The Sunday of the Good Shepherd is considered the Sunday dedicated for vocations.  Every baptized has his mission and most of all he should come to realization  that his “yes” to Jesus is his response to his Lord. It’s not just following Him passively, but also letting him be guided by His voice that creates in us a connection with Him. Therefore, when a Christian professes his faith and his love to Jesus, it’s not a mere verbal expression of a sentimental predisposition, rather it has to be concrete and to be oriented into a particular state of life. It requires a lot of psychological maturity.

When Jesus calls us He talks to us right in the heart, and it has an impact of urgency and exclusiveness, as if that He is asking only to you and you can only reply to Him this time. Therefore, it can’t be procrastinated! It needs “here and now”, the apostles were called to follow Jesus when they were still fishermen and when they didn’t have that courage to go to the ends of the earth to proclaim the gospel.

There’s no need to have a doctorate in Sacred Scriptures in order to read the word of God, what is important is to look on Jesus. Keep the faith and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because you may have all the merits of being a bible scholar but if you have no humility like a disciple, it's hard to hear the voice of the Shepherd, who calls you to pass-through Him as the Gate. It means to say, there's no other way to understand better the Word of God, except through the wisdom of Jesus. The words of Jesus can be understood better from a heart who loves Him and honors Him. When a boy listens to his girlfriend, he immediately understands everything; but if a married man has to listen to his wife, he immediately say "yes" even without understanding.

Jesus talks to the heart and His voice is so clear, but if the mind starts to make the thousand considerations and speculations, surely nothing will happen, nothing will change.  The Good Shepherd (ho poimen ho kalos) is not only good by heart but the term good "kalos", means "attractive" or "handsome", that is meek, non-violent, capable of winning evil by gooodness and persevering.  It's not just a question of being efficient and being effective, because success doesn't mean perfection and without flaws. The Good Shepherd is the one who searches despite of the flaws of His flock.

You don't have to be pefect without sin inorder to serve Him, with your sin you can humble down and claim His great work mercy upon you and you can give witness to His work of grace upon you.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I give you honor and praise
I humbly ask your Holy Spirit to teach me to be humble enough to listen to the voice of Jesus
Help me Jesus and save me by your Holy Wounds
That I may always worship and glorify the Father in Heaven.
This I ask in your name my Lord and my Savior.
