Il Salmo 47,10 ci offre una visione politica capovolta: i potenti della terra sono definiti māginnê, ovvero "scudi". Questa metafora spoglia il potere di ogni pretesa assoluta: il leader non è il padrone della forza, ma un custode della vita altrui. Se gli "scudi" appartengono a Dio, l'autorità non è un privilegio di dominio, ma una delega di protezione.
Oggi, in un mondo frammentato da egoismi nazionali, questa immagine ridefinisce la pace. Essa non è il semplice silenzio delle armi, ma il riconoscimento che ogni governante è responsabile davanti a un'etica superiore. La pace odierna soffoca quando lo "scudo" diventa un muro che esclude o una corazza che opprime; rinasce, invece, quando il potere si riscopre servizio ai vulnerabili. Ricondurre i "capi" sotto la sovranità dell'Altissimo significa disarmare la loro arroganza, ricordando che la vera grandezza risiede nella capacità di proteggere l'umanità intera come un unico popolo.

For the Shields of the Earth Belong to God
Psalm 47:9 (47:10 in some versions) offers us an inverted political vision: the rulers of the earth are defined as māginnê, or "shields."
This metaphor strips power of any absolute pretension: the leader is not the master of force, but a guardian of the lives of others. If the "shields" belong to God, then authority is not a privilege of dominion, but a delegation of protection.
Today, in a world fragmented by national egoisms, this image redefines peace. Peace is not merely the silence of weapons, but the recognition that every ruler is accountable to a higher ethics.
Modern peace is suffocated when the "shield" becomes a wall that excludes or armor that oppresses; it is reborn, however, when power rediscovers itself as service to the vulnerable.
Bringing the "leaders" back under the sovereignty of the Most High means disarming their arrogance, reminding them that true greatness lies in the ability to protect all of humanity as a single people.
